Respite Care for Family Caregivers

Short-term cover so the family member doing the caring can rest, work, travel or simply have a day back.

Who it's for: Family members providing most of the care for a spouse, parent or relative, who need hours, days or a couple of weeks covered.

Common questions

I feel guilty even asking about this.

Nearly everyone says some version of that. Caregiver burnout is the most common reason a family placement fails and someone ends up in a facility earlier than they needed to. Taking a break is part of doing this well, not a failure at it.

Can you cover two weeks while we are away?

Yes. Extended respite is one of our most common requests. Book as early as you can — school holidays and the weeks around Christmas fill up first.

My mother will not accept a stranger while I am gone.

Then we do not start with you gone. We build the relationship first with short visits while you are still home, so that by the time you travel, the caregiver is a familiar face rather than a stranger in the house.
